Thanks for visiting Faraway Footprints. I’m Katie, The founder.

The travel bug really kicked in for me after my sister took me to Europe when I was 16. Since then, I haven’t been able to satiate my hunger for new places. I’ve now been to 25 countries and counting, including studying abroad in Australia, and a working holiday in New Zealand. I love the feeling of being anonymous in a new land, and I’ve always felt more comfortable behind the camera rather than being in front of the lens. There’s just something about getting lost that makes me feel found.

My signature “foot selfies” began out of a love of shoes. My mom used to have to drag me out of a shoe store kicking and screaming if I couldn’t buy a pair (or two). It’s also my personal philosophy that you can learn a lot about a person by what they put on their feet. And before front facing cameras were a thing, it was a lot easier to take the “foot selfies” than worry about a tripod and a camera, and thus the inspiration for Faraway Footprints was born.

These are a few of my favorite things:

Jesus.
My husband.
Dogs.
New Zealand.
Italian Pizza (margherita only). Ice cream (cookies & cream or cotton candy).
Candy (sour or sweet, no chocolate).
On Clouds. Nikes.
Football. Basketball. Golf. Rugby.

(You may see these pop up in my writing from time to time…or why I book trips in the first place.)
