How to Travel Solo

I’ve had a lot of friends say, “I really want to travel but I have no one to go with.” If that sounds familiar, this post is for you!

Personally, as an introvert, solo travel fills my soul—I love not having to work around anyone else’s schedule or talk to anyone I don’t want to. It really allows me to recharge. But I know that’s not the case for everyone, so I have some options for you extroverts, too!

Here are my recommendations if you have the travel bug but not a travel buddy:

Option One: Travel with a Group

“But I just said I didn’t have anyone to go with!” Don’t worry, I’ll bring the group to you! I have multiple travel vendors who create trips specifically targeted for 18-35 year olds. You fly alone to the first destination, meet your guide and a group of like-minded folks—the rest is history & they guide your steps the whole way.

There are trip styles for every traveler, a variety of lengths/destinations/group sizes/budgets. One of them advertises that 70% of their travelers come alone, but leave with lifelong friendships. There are even some all-female trips, if you’d prefer to do a girls trip!

Option Two: “Easy” Destinations

For your very first solo trip if you’re going truly solo, I would recommend booking an “easy” destination. What does “easy” mean? I would say a city or two on the more modern side, that speaks English, and has reliable public transport.

Your first time abroad alone is super exciting, but nerve-wracking. Unless you’re extremely adventurous, trekking into the jungle in a third-world country where you can’t communicate probably isn’t the best idea for

More modern cities like London or Sydney are easy to get around, you don’t have to deal with a language barrier when you’re tired and scared, and worst case scenario you can always find a McDonalds to get a taste of home. ;)

Option Three: just go!

Your other option is to throw all of the above out the window and just go do what you want you to do! Traveling alone takes an immense amount of courage, but will teach you so much about yourself, life, and the world. There is something very freeing about having complete control over what you do each day and just getting some time alone. And that doesn’t mean you won’t meet people along the way! Some of my best stories come from the random people I bumped into along the way, and I still keep in touch with some of these friends all over the world!

Reach out to other solo travelers

There are tons of solo traveler influencers who talk about their favorite destinations. If you’ve never been abroad, you can purchase my International Travel Guide or book a consultation with me before you nail down your itinerary. I’ve been there, done that and can guide you on the best areas to stay in, how to avoid the tourist traps or scams, how to stay safe by yourself, how much money to bring, how to use your phone abroad, how to navigate immigration in and out of the country, and more.

(Or just book me a ticket and I’ll join you as your own personal tour guide!)

I can help you plan your solo adventure! Book a consultation today.
